Kasun, Sanjaya and Malshan put Negombo CC on top

The four quarter-finals of the Under 23 Division Two cricket tournament got underway with matches being played at Dambulla, Panadura, Katunayake and Kurunegala. In the match between Negombo CC and Matale CC at the International Stadium in Dambulla saw Kasun Adikari, Sanjaya Silva and Malshan Gunasinghe slamming tons to put Negombo CC on top.

The morning session of the second day’s play saw Negombo CC resuming from their overnight score of 320 for 4 going on to make a formidable 515 for 8 before declaring. Negombo CC after being invited to take first lease of the wicket on day one was guided by a mammoth 268 runs stand for the second wicket between Kasun and Sanjaya which helped them amass a formidable 320 for 4. Kasun made 148 with 24 boundaries while Sanjaya chipped in with a 112 with 18 boundaries and Malshan making an unbeaten 102 which included 14 boundaries and a six.

Then they had Matale CC in deep trouble. They were struggling on 104 for 7 when play ended on day two yesterday. Navy had the better of the exchanges in their match against Kandy CC at the Welagedera Stadiam in Kurunegala. Navy taking first lease of the wicket made a modest 229 while restricting Kandy CC to 117. Navy batting the second time ended the day on 259 for 5.

The match between Panadura and Kurunegala YCC at the FTZ grounds in Katunayake was evenly poised with Panadura after being bowled out for 117 fought back to bowl out Kurunegala YCC for 132.
