Old Joes advance to both finals

44th Saints Quadrangular

The opening day’s play of the 44th Saints Quadrangular being contested by old boys from the four leading catholic schools in Sri Lanka St Joseph’s, St Benedict’s, St Anthony’s and St Peter’s saw the Old Josephians advanced to the finals of both the 50 over (main tournament) and the 25 over (Over 40’s) tournament.

In the 50 over tournament the Old Josephians recorded a convincing ten wicket win over the Old Antonians. The Darley Road old boys were guided by Charinda Fernando who made a 40 ball knock of 80 and Tissara Perera who put in a fine allround performance. Tissara ended with impressive figures of 4 for 26 and then made a quick fire 67 in only 37 balls.

In the other semi final the Old Peterites recorded a massive 145 runs win over Old Benedictines in the match which was played at Bambalapitiya. The highlight of this match was a knock of 135 by Gihan de Silva.

In the Over 40 (25 overs) semi finals the Old Josephians recorded a close 11 runs win over Old Antonians in a match which was curtailed to 20 overs while the Old Benedictines defeated the Old Peterites by 17 runs despite a knock of 101 by Roshan Anthony. The finals of the two segments will begin at 10.00 a.m. today with the 50 over final between Old Josephians and Old Peterites scheduled to be worked off at Darley Road.

The Over 40’s final between Old Benedictines and Old Josephians is also scheduled to be played from 10.00 a.m. onwards at Kotahena. Meanwhile the round robin matches of the Basketball quadrangular were played at the Darley Roads basketball courts. The first semi final today will be played at 7.30 a.m. which will be between Old Josephians and Old Peterites followed by the second semi final between Old Benedictines and Old Antonians slotted to be played at 9.30 a.m.
The third place play off is scheduled to be played at 2.30 p.m. with the grand final due to be played from 4.00 p.m. onwards.
