Ten students from SLIIT transfer to Southeast Missouri State University, U.S.A.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) has garnered recognition for educational excellence which spans over a decade and in recent years, the institution has reinforced ties with many prominent foreign universities such as Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) providing an invaluable and diverse educational pathway for students.

The facilitator of this tie-up, Mr. Janaka Herath, Managing Director of Progressive Academy (Pvt) Ltd, a leading overseas education consultancy firm announced that ten students from SLIIT recently transferred to SEMO to complete their degrees in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication and Networking, Computer Science and Cyber Security. With the aid of Progressive Academy, these students who completed the first two years of their degrees at SLIIT were awarded scholarships worth of US$ 4,500 to complete the final two years of study at SEMO.

‘This collaboration provides our Sri Lankan students a golden opportunity to obtain a highly recognized US Degree at an accredited State University in US for a very affordable cost which is less than US$ 6000 per academic year’ stated Prof. Lalith Gamage, President/CEO of SLIIT at the farewell organized for the third batch of students at SLIIT, Malabe.

Eleven out of fourteen students who have transferred to SEMO previously from SLIIT have achieved high grades during their first and second semesters at SEMO and were qualified for the Dean’s list which requires a GPA of 3.5 and above. SEMO proudly announces that the Sri Lankan students have so far topped the performance of students from all other countries and have the highest percentage on the Dean’s list and SEMO is certainly hoping to attract more of them in the near future. Prof. S. Karunarathne, Chairman of SLIIT stated that he and his staff were delighted to hear the excellent performance of their previous transfer students and advised the new batch to ensure that they maintain the same.
