Dr Madeleine Ogilvie of ECU to conduct workshop on how to write a PHD Thesis

Dr Madeleine Ogilvie, Head of the School of Marketing, Tourism and Leisure at ECU, which is one of the top ranked universities in Australia, will be in Sri Lanka to guide Sri Lankan postgraduate students on how to write a thesis for their PHDs .

The workshop namely "The Research Proposal Workshop" is targeted to Sri Lankan graduates who would like to embark on a postgraduate research degree and offers practical and comprehensive guidance that will impart in-depth knowledge on how to write an effective proposal.

The students will learn how to choose an appropriate topic, how to structure their work and how to write a research proposal that will meet the requirements of the research degree being considered. The workshops will cover other vital dissertation skills such as: how to plan and make functional timelines, research effectively, explore academic writing styles, and how to edit their work to create a cohesive and professional thesis proposal. Practical tips, checklists, and warnings about common mistakes are included throughout.

The workshop will also provide those who attend, opportunities to learn how to apply for courses at ECU as well as guidance on how to connect with potential research supervisors. Dr Ogilvie began her career as General Nurse before moving into Sales and Marketing Management. In 1996 she became a freelance management consultant with the final shift into academia in 1997, when she joined ECU as a Lecturer. Since joining ECU she has progressed her career to become the Head of School of Marketing, Tourism and Leisure within the Faculty of Business and Law. This role allows Dr Ogilvie to give students a broad overview of studying at ECU, as well as highlighting specific examples of the exciting research that occurs at ECU.

The Research Proposal Workshop will be held in Colombo at ACBT on 17 th& 18th August 2011 from 9.30 am till 3.30 pm with the Registration fee of Rs. 1,500/- which include refreshments and lunch.
