Japanese diplomat’s vehicle in crash, driver dead

The car of a Japanese diplomat and an army truck collided yesterday afternoon at Warakapola killing the local driver of the diplomat and injuring five others including the diplomat, Police said.

The diplomat and his family was returning to Colombo while the truck was heading towards Kandy when the accident occurred. Both vehicles were thrown into a nearby stream with part of the truck falling on the car.

The man killed in the crash was 46-year-old Ajith Deshapriya, personal driver of the diplomat.The diplomat and his injured family members were rushed to the Warakapola hospital. The driver of the army truck was arrested.
