The principal thanked the First Lady for her gracious presence and Vijith Wijayamuni Zoysa, the Deputy Minister of Education for his presence despite the busy schedule.

From left the principal, Mr.D.M.D.Dissanayake, Right the principal primary Nimali Kuruppu and other members of the staff with children welcoming the chief guest.

The principal speaking at the occasion stated that Art was the product or process of deliberately arranging items often with symbolic significance in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses.

It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and models of expressions, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture and painting. Art is a part of aesthetic studies and the intention is to stimulate thoughts and emotions. Art enriches children’s lives.

Consider the world without Art, what would be the impact on the lack of graphics on the children’s favourite video game. Art makes the children more thoughtful and develops analytical skills. Art is something that is both functional and aesthetic pleasing to the eyes of the children. Creating Art expands a child’s ability to interact with the world around them, and provide a new set of skills for self expression and communication. Art not only develops analytical skills but also cultivates important skills that benefit a child’s self development. When a child draws a picture or paints a portrait, that child is beginning to communicate visually.

Children express themselves through art on a fundamental level, sometime their artwork is the manifestation of that expression, but more often the physical process of creating is the expression. Art is one area where children and their creativity have free reign.

Mrs. Nimali Kuruppu the primary sector principal a highly refined cultured lady, who holds the best of virtues in the highest order has set an example in the manner in which an exhibition has to be conducted. All children in the primary participated and certificates and medals were awarded by the chief guest madam Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa.

The secretary SDS Mr. Anil Karunaratne congratulated the children whose artwork is on display for their effort and creation. He thanked the parents and members of the staff for extending their co-operation to make this event a success.
