Gayan, Tharindu put Police in control

Under-23 Division II cricket

Half centuries from Gayan Sandaruwan (62) and Tharindu Dilshan (72 n.o.) enabled Police SC to take control of their game against Kelaniya CC in the Under-23 Division II cricket match which began at Police Park yesterday.

The Cops were in control at 248 for the loss of four wickets in reply to Kelaniya’s paltry total of 111 after off-spinner Malin Silva put the brakes on their visitors with six wickets.

Wennappuwa CC had things under control against Kandy YCC at the Albert Peiris ground. They declared at 367-9 and captured four wickets for a total of 50 when stumps were drawn. Chandima Abeykoon (75), Kanishka Ranaraja (67), Ruwantha Ekanayake (66 n.o.) and Maduka Weerasekara (58) slammed half centuries to put Wennappuwa in the box seat. Leg spinner Thiraj Mapatuna ended with figures of 5 for 95.

Negombo CC made a rare recovery from 88-4 to post 222 and claim six wickets of Sinha CC at Kadirana. All-rounder Janishka Premasinghe (90) and Kasun Ekanayake (54 n.o.) helped Kandy CC to gain control against a young Old Anandians outfit at Ananda Mawatha. At Katunayake Rukshan Weerasinghe was unbeaten on 103 as Saracens batted the entire day to post 327-7 at the end of first day against Seeduwa/Raddoluwa CC.

Matches between Lankan CC vs Kandy YCC, Old Moratu SC vs Navy SC, Kalutara TC and Panadura SC and Galle CC vs Army SC were evenly poised as all matches end today. - NA
