Toastmasters District 82 leaders gear up for a brand new year

The district officers of Toastmasters District 82 that consists of South India and Sri Lanka gathered in Colombo recently to deliberate on the initiatives for the year begun on July 1 2011 under the leadership of the District Governor distinguished Toastmaster Zameen M. Saleem. He is the second Sri Lankan to hold the governorship of the coveted District 82 that became the world's number one Toastmasters' District for the last 3 years in a row - a record that remains unbeaten to date.

The new district council consists of Immediate Past District Governor distinguished Toastmaster Nagaraja Rao, District Governor Zameen M. Saleem, Lt. Governor Education and Training Nina John, Lt. Governor Marketing Nirmala Lilly, District Secretary Ajitha Goonewardene, District Treasurer Hiranthi Ratnayake, District PRO Wayomi Gunathilaka, Webmaster (WWW.T82.org) Frank Storey, Division A Governor Ajantha Jayawardena, Division B Governor Chittur Subramaniam, Division E Governor Satyanarayana Raju, Division G Governor Saravanan Velrajan, Division H Governor Chundika Ariyawansa, Division I Governor Urmila Shetty, Division J Governor Jeremy Weeresinghe, Division K Governor Jaikumar C Pillai, Division L Governor Pawas Chandra and 45 Area Governors. The team deliberated on the way forward for District 82 in the light of the toastmasters' aim towards achieving greatness together.

Since 1924, more than 4 million people around the world have become more confident speakers and leaders because of their participation in Toastmasters. Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development with a solid membership base of over 260,000 and over 12,500 clubs around the globe. District 82 that consists of South India and Sri Lanka has seen a membership over 6,500 in the year 2010/2011 and is one of the fastest growing Toastmasters Districts in the world.
