Cementing roots

Pix by Nilan Maligaspe

‘Root identity’, an exhibition of sculpture by Dominique Dennery was held at Canada House, the residence of the Canadian High Commissioner recently.

Life-size heads and busts cast in white, grey and black cement, mounted on mahogany bases, a series of cement masks and a bronze figurine sculpted by this Canadian artist were on display.

Dominique who reconnects with her Afro-Caribbean roots in Sri Lanka is exploring sculpture as a vivid expression of her personal transformation under the guidance of well-known sculptor Dr. Sarath Chandrajeewa.
