Swimming and Diving Championship from June 23

The All Island Swimming and Diving Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Association (SLSAA) together with the Ministry of Education will be held at the Ananda College swimming pool from June 23 to 26.

The championship sponsored by Milo Nestle Lanka Ltd is being held for the 38th successive year. It is regarded as the most popular school event in Sri Lanka today and this year the organizers have received over 1800 entries in both the senior and junior categories in the age group of Under 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.

According to an official of the SLSAA the championship will have 140 individual events with the participation of 1012 males and 802 female participants. Apart from that the group relay events will also be held where 343 teams are expected to battle it out bringing the total number of events in the championship to 164.

The reigning champions in the boys and girls categories are St Joseph’s Colombo and Mahamaya College Kandy. The number of schools that will be participating the are Western Province (Government 56, International 28, Private 23), Central (Government 12, International 3, Private 2), Northh Western (Government 3, International 1), Southen (Government 13, International 2) and North Central Government 2).
