Roween Sarap leads Lanka team to ISTAF World Cup

After several rounds of hot contested matches a nine member Sri Lanka squad was picked at the British School Courts for the 2011 ISTAF World Cup Sepaktakraw competition to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from July 21 to 24.

Twenty countries from Asia, Europe and the Middle East will be participating at this four day contest. It is a discipline at all Asian Games. The invitation to send a team for the World Cup has encouraged local Sepaktakraw enthusiasts to take part in the event with renewed vigour.

Captaining the Amateur Sepaktakraw Association Sri Lanka team will be T.Roween Sarap. He has been taking part in the sport since 1987. He has represented Uva Malay Association and toured Malaysia in 1990 with the Sri Lanka team for the MAS-Utusan-RTM, sponsored World Cup . He plays as a TEKONG (Service-Kicker).

Another member of the squad is M.A.Ahamat . He has indulged in the game since 1995 and toured Thailand for the King's Cup World Championships in 1996,2004,2006, 2007, and 2010. He also toured Indonesia for the Asian Beach sepaktakraw championship in 2007. . He plays the roles of feeder and killer. He is a member of the Kolonnawa Sepaktakraw team. A.T.P.Rajasooriya has been taking part in the sport since 2005 and toured Thailand for the King's Cup World Sepaktakraw Championships in 2005 ,2006 and 2007.He has also toured Indonesia and Malaysia for the Asian Beach Sepaktakraw Championships in 2007. He also plays the role of ‘Killer’ (spiker with the foot) of the team. He is a member of the Garudas Sports Club team.
