Lankan hockey girls bag Silver

The Sri Lankan Under-21 girl’s hockey team returned to the island after winning the silver medal at the 3rd Asian Hockey Federation Trophy organized by the Asian Hockey Federation while earning their place to play at the Asian Trophy Junior Hockey Tournament to be held in 2012.

The competition which also saw the participation of Thailand, China, Taipei, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan and Indonesia was played between June 4 and 12 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Sri Lankan team comprised of 18 players and was captained by Nadika Kumari of Sri Lanka Navy.

Sri Lanka took on Chinese Taipei in the final on June 12 and emerged silver medalists.
The countries wining gold, silver and bronze at this tournament would be eligible for the Asian Trophy Junior Hockey Tournament.
