Blind cricket – raises many an eyebrow

The annual Merril J Fernando cricket final was played at the Tyronne Fernando Stadium in Moratuwa on Friday (May 6). The match turned out to be a high-scoring and interesting affair with as much as 510 runs being scored in 74 overs.

Merril J Invitation XI batting first rattled up 253 runs in 34 overs. Subhas Giyas School for the deaf and blind Monaragala overcame the score, getting 257 runs for two wickets and emerged winners for 2011. The men who made this possible were Deshapriya and Suranga Sampath who were unbeaten both scoring centuries.
