Oshan’s six try burst sinks S. Thomas’

By Aubrey Kuruppu

Kingwood regained some of their composure and confidence thanks to a dazzling six try burst by center Oshan Perera that enabled them to thrash the S. Thomas’ Mt. Lavinia by 63 points (four goals, seven tries) to six (2 penalties) at Bogambara yesterday. The Perera twins Oshan and fly half Lavanka – had an exciting time of it running at full pelt against a defense that was at times non-existent. There were wide holes and Oshan especially punished the Thomians, side-stepping and speeding his way to the line.

The Thomians disappointed and they played to Kingswood’s strengths. The difference between the back divisions was like chalk and cheese. The visitors persisted in gifting away hard won possession. Once or twice the ball was kicked into the waiting hands of Oshan and that was that.

The Thomian pack played a stout hearted game and gave almost as well as they got. But when the ball came out it was a different story. Oshan scored the try of the match when he covered around seventy yards on a jinxing, side-stepping run and touched down far left. Full back Tilina Weerasinghe was always dangerous as he gained good ground with his raking runs and his speed. He had two tries for his efforts.

Lavanka Perera, the fly half, flanker Chanaka Piyasena and winger Mohammed Nazri also scored. Weerasinghe and Oshan Perera did the conversions.

Flyhalf D. Jayasinghe converted the penalties for the losers.
