New look Avurudu games!

Photo focus

Are traditional games associated with the Avurudu celebrations on the wane?

These pictures captured at an event held at the Municipal Council grounds of Ambalangoda in the south of the country show that other than hitting the pot and the bicycle race, other events like the balloon blowing contest are not traditionally associated with New Year festivities.

In addition, many of the young women participating in the lime and spoon event, also a non-traditional game, have opted for western attire rather than the traditional cloth and jacket.
