National Beach Volleyball team leaves for Thailand

The national men’s beach Volleyball team left on Thursday to attend the 12th Samila Asian AVC Beach Volleyball Tour to be held in Songkha City in Thailand from April 10 to 16.

Twenty four men’s teams and 23 women’s teams representing 13countries in the Asian region will attend this annual tournament. Sri lanka’s number one pair: Mahesh Perera and Wasantha Ratnapala are determined to put up a fight and win a medal. The second Sri Lankan pair comprises Sampath Peris and Pubudu Ekanayake.

Lieutenant Commander MPS Alahakoon is the Manager of the team while Prasanna Udayakumara will be the Coach. The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has appointed Shiran Fernando as the Masseur of the team.

According to Minister Dilan Perera, the President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, the main aim of attending this championship is to give much needed exposure to the players ahead of the first ever South Asian Beach games to be staged in Sri Lanka in early October 2011.
