An annual celebration in Sri Lanka

By Malshi Wijethunga (Grade 7), Willesden College Int.

In Sri Lanka, there are a variety of festivals and celebrations. Some of the main events are the New Year
festival, Independence Day, Vesak festival and many others. The New Year festival is held
annually. All the nationalities in our country join to celebrate this festival. In this festival, peace is the main icon.

It is celebrated on April 13th or 14th. Everyone gets holidays on these days. All the work is done at a certain time. People get ready to celebrate the New Year festival from March itself. They start to clean their houses first of all. Then they make different types of sweets. People get a bonus salary from their careers because of the New Year. They go shopping, buying new clothes and other things.

There are many games relevant to this festival. Children are so happy and they enjoy a lot. People go to their relations houses wearing their new clothes and taking presents. I feel that we all should enjoy this festival happily and peacefully.

60th Anniversary of the Air Force

By Imalsha Hikkaduwage (7 years), Musaeus College

We saw a jet. It was green in colour. Its speed is super fast. Then we saw a Kafir plane like the one that crashed recently.

Next we went to see a radar. From it we can see what’s happening in the sky. We have only one radar in Sri Lanka which can see even when a plane is flying very low. It belongs to the Sri Lanka Air Force. Then we saw a helicopter and a huge plane.

I was very sad when we had to go home. I enjoyed the Air Force exhibition very much.
