Despair of Golden Key depositors

The plight of many thousands of depositors of the Golden Key Credit Co is a well known fact. We have been denied the monthly interest as well as the deposits from December 2008. There are two associations who are expected to look after our interests, bu t sad to say we have only received Rs 100,000 from our capital or deposits for over two years.

Many depositors are unaware of decisions taken by these associations. But, we are made to understand that high handed acts as well as damage to property and insults have been observed against certain officials, including Lalith Kotelawala and Prof. Lakshman Watawala. One of the president’s of these associations have been warned by Court and had to tender an apology in open court.

This being the present situation, many of us who deposited money are ashamed of such conduct and wish to have no connection with these associations. More information has been received by us, than official information, which appears to be a disadvantage to us and the present steps adopted appears to either delay or to deprive us of our deposits as well as the interest due.

As depositors who are helpless now, we urge the associations to kindly inform us –through the press - as to when and where these meetings were held and the depositors present at such meeting? We are aware that depositors attending meetings have been allowed after paying Rs.500 each. A better method to obtain our dues will be for the Central Bank Golden Key Secretariat to attend to our claims.
