Air Force rugby players return from successful NZ tour

The Sri Lanka Air Force rugby team returned from a successful three-week tour of New Zealand which included a couple of matches and a residential training programme. The local Airmen played against the New Zealand Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force rugby teams. Apart from the matches the Sri Lankan Air Force ruggerites underwent a training camp conducted by the former All Blacks great Buck Shelford.

In the two matches played SLAF made an impressive display to beat the New Zealand Royal Navy rugby team by a close 36-29. Malinda Jayasinghe won the player-of-the-match award while Chanaka Chandima, Chanaka Gunaratne, Migara Wijeratne, Pubudu Kodagoda, Mithun Hapugoda and Charith Seneviratne impressed for the local team. In their second game SLAF were beaten by a thrilling 18-16 by the New Zealand Royal Air Force.
