Journalism 2010 batch diploma awards

Norwegian Ambassador Hilde Harldstad was the chief guest at the diploma awarding ceremony of the Sri Lanka College of Journalism's Batch of 2010 held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on March 3. Also present was FOJO representative Fiona Berten.

Documentary on Ven Bellana Shri Ganawimalabidhana Thera tonight

A documentary produced to mark the 92nd birthday of Rajakeeya Panditha, Mahanayaka of the Kotte Shri Jayawardenapura Shri Kalyani Samagridharma Maha Sangha Sabhawa Ven Bellana Shri Ganawimalabidhana Thera will be telecast on Sri Lanka Rupavahini from 7 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. today (March 27). The programme has been produced and directed by Anura Thanthialage and Padmalatha Abeysinghe.

National Trust book launch and lecture

The National Trust - Sri Lanka will launch the publication titled "Coral Reefs of Sri Lanka" by Nishantha Perera, on Thursday, March 31 at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, 80 Galle Road, Colombo 3 at 6.30 p.m. the book is sponsored by Central Finance PLC.

The book launch will be followed by the lecture titled "Art of the Last Decade of the 20th Century" by Prof. Jagath Weerasinghe of the Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology of the University of Kelaniya.

B&S call for action on climate change

Popular singing duo Bathiya and Santhush chosen as brand ambassadors for Earth Hour Sri Lanka 2011 joined the call for action against climate change. "We call on all our fans to add their voices to a global call for action against climate change and join us in going beyond the hour and changing our lifestyles to reduce the environmental footprint which will help us lead the way to a greener tomorrow," the singers said in a statement.

Earth Hour was marked by a global lights-out observance with 131 countries taking part in the March 26 event, which was supported by the Environmental Ministry of Sri Lanka.

Beetles on the move

The VW Beetle Owner's Club has steadily grown into one of the most colourful and largest motor related associations in the island today with a membership of over 250 still growing.

This year in lieu of their 12 th Annual Drive the club will have a drive with at least 60 VW Beetles ranging from the vintage to classic right upto the modern day New Beetle who will proceed from the Hilton Colombo to a resort in a parade covering many city centres and towns en route today, Sunday, March 27. It will be flagged off at 7.30 a.m at the Hilton Colombo's Sports Centre Car Park.

SLAHAB annual awards

The Sri Lanka Association of Hair Dressers and Beauticians (SLAHAB) presents their annual awards 2011 on April 3 and 4 at the Galadari Hotel.

Hair competitions on Gents & Ladies' hair cut, open to all age groups will be on April 3 from 10 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. and competitions on fantasy hair styles and nail art on the 4th from 10 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. Model demonstrations of bridal and evening elegant hair styles and bridal make up competitions will be held on both days.

The contestants who will obtain 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded cash prizes of Rs. 15, 000, 10,000, 7, 500 and a certificate. SLAHAB invites their members and the public to actively participate in this grand event.

Little Gowry needs help

Three year old M. Gowry Wasana Kumari from Kegalle is confined to a bed due to a congenital defect and has been undergoing continuous treatment at Lady Ridgeway Colombo and Peradeniya hospital for the past three years.

The child's parents seek public assistance to raise necessary funds to continue with treatment and medication as they do not have a regular income.

Book launch

Dr. Piyasiri Vijaya-sekere's English novel 'Sacred Story of A Temple Rebel' will be launched on April 5, at the Goethe Institut, Gregory's Rd, Colombo 7 at 5.30 p.m.

The 6th Annual General Meeting of the Profess-ional Counsellors Association of Sri Lanka (affiliated to Sri Lanka Foundation) will be held today at 2.30 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute Hall, Colombo 7.
