Marking the 80th Birth Anniversary of the Chairman/President of South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) a pirith ceremony was held on March 8 at the campus premises in Malabe. This was followed by an alms giving the following day.

An Award Ceremony appreciating the performance of the students of SAITM also was held at the Auditorium on March 9. Students of Medical, Engineering, Management and Media Faculties received awards for best performance in individual subjects as well as for best overall performance in each Faculty. The event was made glamorous by various events performed by the students.

Dr. Neville Fernando, the Founder, Chairman and the President of SAITM, was awarded the Honorable Professorship of NIZHNY NOVGOROD STATE MEDICAL ACADEMY (NNSMA), Russian Federation, for his excellent contribution towards establishing a private medical school in Sri Lanka in order to award the MD degree from NNSMA. Prof. Ganndey.E.Bulanov- Vice Chancellor of NNSMA and Dr.Vladimir Zagainov- Dean faculty of Medicine NNSMA visited Sri Lanka to grace this occasion.
