Colombo Dockyard delivers Platform/ROV Support Vessel Greatship Rashi

Colombo Dockyard recently delivered another Platform/ ROV Support Vessel Greatship Rashi to Greatship (India) Ltd (GIL), a subsidiary of the Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd, the fourth in the series with the new ship joining ‘sister’ vessel Greatship Rohini which was delivered in February 2011.

Greatship Rashi is a state of the art, 78m Platform/ROV Support Vessel and is the 218th new ship that Colombo Dockyard has built and the 12th large and highly complex vessel that has built and delivered, since it internationalized its Shipbuilding activitis in 2006.


Picture shows Mangala Yapa (MD/CEO, CDPLC) and Kartik Modi (GIL) exchanging protocols of delivery in the presence of A. Nakauchi (Chairman, CDPLC), J. Gunadheera (GIL) .

The local firm said Greatship Rashi is a Class II DP vessel and has been built complying with the new SPS Code 2008 and Environmental Protection and Crew Comfort notations of Lloyd's Register of Shipping, capable of supporting offshore exploration and production activities.

The company says its is one of Sri Lanka’s largest foreign exchange earners, contributing nearly 2% of Sri Lanka’s total export revenue, whilst providing employment to over 3,000 Sri Lankans. Having committed to the development and sustenance of skills, competencies and technical know-how of hundreds of local engineers and craftsmen, the company today is able to meet the emerging needs in the modern Shipbuilding and Shiprepair industry, meeting stringent requirements of Classification Societies, Owners and Flag Authorities.
