Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industries formed in Trincomalee

The Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Trincomalee district was inaugurated under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Trincomalee district (CCITD) and with the support of Asia Foundation on International Women’s Day that fell on Tuesday.

More than a 1000 female-headed families in the Trincomalee district are engaged in self employment projects due to the loss of their spouses in the conflict. To give a boost to women entrepreneurs the CCITD has drawn up a programme to improve their knowledge in business skills and entrepreneurship for the betterment of their future development, said CCITD Chairman S. Sivapalan at the inaugural meeting of the Women’s Chamber at Hotel Green Park in Trincomalee.

The main aim of the Women Chamber is to promote and strengthen the goodwill and friendship among the women entrepreneurs, he added. Ms N. R. Ranjini, Project Director of the ADB funded NECORD was the chief guest. Michel Calavan, consultant of the Asia Foundation, Sisira Kumarasiri, Senior Technical Advisor and Rizath Sheriff, Programme Officer of Asia Foundation covering the province of Eastern and Uva were guests of honour.
