Bloomfield sitting pretty against Chilaw Marians

Bloomfield were sitting pretty against defending champions Chilaw Marians at the end of the second day’s play in their Premier Tier ‘A’ cricket encounter at Reid Avenue. The second day’s play saw Bloomfield, resuming from their overnight score of 379 for 9, adding a further 20 runs to end their innings on 399. The massive score came on the back off a 151 ball knock of 138 by skipper Chinthaka Jayasinghe who was also involved in a 73 runs stand for the fifth wicket with Prasanna Jayawardena who made 58.

Then their bowling trio comprising of pacies Nuwan Pradeep and Tyronne Gamage along with spinner Suraj Randiv combined well together to restrict the Marians to 219 runs. Marians, made to follow on with a deficit of 180 runs, ended the day on 136 for 4 needing a further 44 runs to avoid an innings defeat when the final day’s play gets underway today.

Ragama CC has set themselves for an outright win against Badureliya CC when play ended on day two at Braybrooke Place. Two solid partnerships in the morning session of play on day two helped Ragama CC, resuming from their overnight score of 186 for 3, to reach a formidable 419.

Veteran Indika de Saram who made a top score of 115 was involved in both partnerships, first of 95 runs for the fourth wicket with Nayana Fernando and the other of 96 runs for the fifth wicket skipper Kaushalya Weerartne.

Badureliya CC, batting the second time with a deficit of 229 runs, was struggling on 136 for 5 and are left with a daunting task of making another 90 runs to avoid defeat. At NCC grounds a superb knock of 110 by Dinesh Chandimal supported by half tons from Jehan Mubarak and Farveez Maharoof enabled NCC make mammoth score of 436 for 9 against Lankan CC who made 236 at stumps on day two.
Chandimal’s knock coming in 133 balls had 13 boundaries and two sixes. He was also involved in a 122 runs stand for the third wicket with Jehan Mubarak. Later Maharoof and Chathura Peiris combined to add 91 runs for the seventh wicket.

Colts resuming from their overnight score of 21 for no loss made 257 to Saracens SC’s 236 to take a slender first inning lead in the match played at the Colts grounds.
