Premier Tier ‘A’ Final
By M. Shamil Amit

The curtains of the Premier limited over tournament of both the Tier ‘A’ and ‘B’ will come down today with the two finals scheduled to be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium and at the De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa.

The Tier ‘A’ contest between Colts led by Malinda Warnapura and SSC led by Kaushal Silva which will be played under floodlights from 2.30 p.m. It is going to be an interesting tussle with Colts -- the only unbeaten side of the tournament so far, seeking to end on a winning note while SSC will be looking forward to seek revenge for their first round defeat to Colts.

The two teams were slotted in the Group ‘B’ with Colts ending up their assignments securing four wins out of the four matches they played while SSC lost to Colts by two wickets. The two teams are oozing with some of the best and top notch players available in the inter-club cricket circuit. They posses players who have been included for the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup due to get underway midway next month.

SSC have in their ranks Mahela Jayawardena who has the honour of hitting the highest score of the tournament so far by making an unbeaten knock of 163 against Bloomfield and Thilan Samaraweera while Colts posses three world cup players in Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera and Nuwan Kulasekera.

The two teams of course would like to forget the outcome of the semi finals where SSC got the better of neighbours NCC by five wicket and Colts overcoming Chilaw Marians by four wickets which was played under floodlights and under trying conditions. Of course the newly laid track in preparation for the ICC World Cup is going to play a crucial role today. This was evident in the second semi final encounter between Colts and Chilaw Marians where the batsmen from both sides were struggling to come into terms with the uneven pitch.

Nevertheless a big score cannot be expected but a keen tussle is on the cards as the aims of the players from the two teams will no doubt to grab the cricket plumb. Meanwhile the final of the Tier ‘B’ category between Moors led by Shantha Kalavitigoda and BRC by Nimesh Perera jnr scheduled to be played at Moratuwa will get underway in the morning. The two teams ended up their as the second best teams of Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ SSC – Kaushal Silva (Capt), Mahela Jayawardena, Tharanga Paranavithana, Thilan Samaraweera, Thilina Kandamby, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, Dimuth Karunaratne, Dhammika Prasad, Dilhara Fernando, Nuwan Zoysa, Sachitra Senanayake, Charith Jayampathi, Thilan Thushara, Sohan Boralessa, Chaminda Bandara.
