Azmaara: Balinese touch to relieving stress

The rush of deadlines, the strain of constant travel or the demands of the ever accelerating rat race; our generation is all too familiar with the trials of the corporate world. In fact the hectic lifestyle comes with a side helping of ‘stress’. According to Azmaara spa, experts in therapies that relieve stress and relax the body, stress can result in energy being trapped in certain areas of the body which in turn can beget aches, ailments and even diseases.

While Azmaara Spas is a Sri Lankan organisation, they opened here only a little over a year ago, though the spa is well established in the Maldives. Currently located at Cinnamon Lakeside as well as Habarana Lodge and Chaaya Village, the spa is complete with a Far East Asian ambience of red hues and the tangy aroma of lemon grass wafting in the air. It offers therapies that are ideal for relieving stress. The Balinese full body massage is the most requested for treatment, according to the masseuses, popular due to the intense pressure applied and its distinctive combining of massage, aromatheraphy, reflexology and acupressure.

The staff at Azmaara is an all-Indonesian team who return to Bali annually to train and be refreshed on their technique. Considered as a ‘hard massage’, the Balinese massage is effective in relieving stress as the technique involves adding pressure on particular areas of the body to help blood flow through the body and reach the vital organs.

The degree of pressure applied however can be adjusted to the customer’s liking. Skilfully kneading and tapping the body to release knots of stress stored within, the masseuse uses the ball of their thumbs, fingers, palms and elbows, to exert pressure on those trouble areas and increase the blood flow.
