Distinguished Internationally renowned Chemist felicitated

Dr. R O B Wijesekera

Vidya Jyothi Dr. R O B Wijesekera, presently Director/Consultant of Link Natural Products (Pvt) Ltd, who has made a singular contribution to research & development and industry for many years was felicitated by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon on October 18 by unveiling his portrait in the Hall named after him. Mr. Jayantha Dhanapala was the Chief Guest at the Felicitation Ceremony.

Dr Wijesekera who made significant contributions to industrial development in Sri Lanka while working at the MRI and CISIR was the recipient of the Guinness Award in the seventies. He was UNIDO Specialist Technical Adviser in Vienna and WHO Task Force Manager of an international research programme on "Plants used in Fertility Regulation" for many years.

Returning to Sri Lanka after his retirement in the nineties he functioned as Chairman of the ITI (former CISIR) and thereafter made an invaluable contribution as Founder Chairman of the National Science & Technology Commission. He is a Past President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon and the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science.
