Extra stocks for festive season

The government will import extra stocks of chicken, eggs and big onions in time for the festive season.
Minister of Co-operatives and Internal Trade, Johnston Fernando, said the extra stocks were necessary in case of shortages, and also to keep market prices stable.

Increasing consumer demand in the North and the East had resulted in a market shortfall of some 3,000 tons of chicken, while adverse weather conditi0ons had affected the harvest of big onions.
Minister Fernando made these observations during a committee-level discussion with his Ministry.

The owner of the establishment, a Sri Lankan, evaded arrest. The police recovered Rs. 300,000 cash and 100 bottles of foreign liquor. The suspects are to be produced before a magistrate.
