Kevin’s quick fire ton highlight at Maradana

Left handed opener Kevin Bernadus slammed his maiden ton which was the highlight of the drawn Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter between Zahira and St Joseph’s concluded at Maradana yesterday.

Kevin’s quick-fire knock of 104 came off just 82 balls which included nine boundaries and eight towering sixes. Kevin along with skipper Chathuranga Kumara who remained unbeaten on 102 was associated in a valuable 186 runs stand for the third wicket which saw the Joes resuming from their overnight score of 73 for 2 going to make 261 for 7 before declaring.

This was in reply to the Zahirians score of 167. The home team batting the second time were 82 for 5 when bad light stopped play at 4.00 p.m.

Lakshaka, Devin shine in drawn game at Kalutara

A knock of 107 by Lakshaka Osanka for Holy Cross Kalutara and a impressive match figure of 7 for 73 by Royal Colombo’s left arm spinner Devin Pathmanathan were the highlights of the drawn Under 19 inter-school match concluded at Kalutara yesterday. Lakshaka’s maiden ton cracked included 16 boundaries and two sixes as he and his partner Sahan Vaas who made a contribution of 50 with eight boundaries put on a opening stand of 114 enabling Holy Cross resuming from their overnight score of 84 for no loss make 215 in reply to Royal’s score of 267 for 9 declared made on day one. A delayed start and an early finish (both on account of rain) precluded the possibility of a first innings lead as S. Thomas’ and Dharmaraja figured in a draw at Lake View yesterday.

Consistent sxcorer Nuwan Kavinda (70 with ten fours) starred with the bat for the blue, black and blue boys. Kavinda and Sachin Pieris put on 81 for the third wicket.

Brian Dharmasena and Umesh Fernando entered the forties. Spinners Aravina Vithanachchi and Deneth Lanka accounted for nine wickets.Lahiru Herath and Sandun Weerakkody and Chamod Pathirana (with the ball) were prominent in the Rajan reply.
