Creation of new company will only help Kotelawala/GK directors

The creation of a new company to dispose of the Golden Key assets, as reported in the media, will help only Lalith Kotelawala and his directors who have cheated the trusting depositors. This proposal will buy time and only help them to go scot free, leaving the unfortunate depositors stranded.

The proposal by the esteemed panel who have been assigned to help the depositors, will in fact, help Kotelawala and the directors who have committed a criminal offence to the tune of Rs 26 billion and it appears that their sympathies and obligations are towards the defaulters (directors). Unfortunately, the unsuspecting President of the country also has been led to believe that the creation of the company will solve the problem of the depositors and this was given much publicity in the media. It is said that Kotelawala has paid back Rs.2.5 billion.

Let this sum accrue interest to increase the deposit value. Otherwise, according to the proposal this amount will be spent on the people who will be appointed to administer, as salaries/perks and incorporation and other expenses, etc.

It is expected to collect the other Rs. 23.5 billion by selling the hospital and other means.
How long would we have to wait as shareholders to get our money back? Will this help the depositors who have waited for two years for the monthly income by way of interest? The solution should be a practical one in the interest of the depositors. This proposal will only move us away from whatever hope we had.

The obligation of the panel/advisors must be to ensure that the depositors get their money back immediately. They should help the court process and provide all necessary information details of all depositors and other information are available. Presentation of all relevant facts will help the court process to be completed early.

Please remember we have not received any interest payment, our sole income, for two years. Long term solutions will not work. We will be dead by them. Assist the court process and let justice be meted out early. An unfortunate Senior Citizen (depositor).
