The relatives and friends of Etkon Ralahamy were secretly conspiring. Their plan was to somehow kill Commander Veediya Bandara. They were drawing up plans for this. King Mayadunne got to know of this. He saw to it that these plans failed. The hopes of the relations of Etkon Ralahamy were
proving futile. They had to give up their plans.

From the very inception, Veediya Bandara was an erstwhile enemy of King Mayadunne. But King Mayadunne always respected Veediya Bandara and treated him in a right royal manner. He was provided with the topmost security. Meanwhile all the people in the kingdom of Kotte were in disgust over the
imprisonment of Veediya Bandara.

Before long, there were signs of Commander Veediya Bandara gaining release from prison.

The person responsible for this was Princess Suriyadevi, the daughter of King Mayadunne. She often observed how this great man was standing at the window of his cell. He was just gazing at the sky. She had heard and come to know of the bravery of this commander long before.

Suriyadevi was taken up by the majestic look of this warrior. She thought that he was as fit as fit could be
physically. Gradually she developed a liking for this commander, who was charming in everyway. She moved about in such a way that she saw him more often. As days went by, Commander Veediya Bandara too developed a liking for her.

Days passed. They began to smile with each other whenever their eyes met. They developed a friendship. But they were determined to keep it a secret and took every precaution, in this regard. She thought of making the commander’s life a happy one. For this purpose. She was prepared, even to sacrifice her life. One day, Commander Veediya Bandara spoke to the princess, when there was nobody around.

She looked right around. There was no one within sight. Slowly, she came towards the window. Then the commander spoke to her these words, “Princess, please help me to escape from this life in prison. I believe you are capable of doing it. If you succeed in doing so, I will never ever forget you. I promise you.”

When this request was made, the princess was moved. She was highly taken up and felt sorry for him. She developed a deep loyalty. “Yes, I will do all I can to help you to escape,” replied the princess. After a couple of days that important day dawned. It provided to be a lucky day for them. Her father, King Mayadunne and her brother Prince Tikiri Bandara had left the palace on a long journey.

Princess Suriyadevi managed to find the key of the prison cell where Veediya Bandara was imprisoned.
Secretly she opened the lock of the cell. Veediya Bandara acted immediately. He ran away. A few days passed. He managed to get down Princess Suriyadevi too, to the Kingdom of Kotte.
