Squadron Leader Sudam Kaluarchchi is no more

Sudam Kaluarchchi, son of international volleyball coach, Mr. K.A.K. Wijepala died on Friday morning. Sudam, a brilliant product of Royal College, Colombo excelled in the field of sports.

Sudam was the Athletics Vice Captain and Volleyball Captain of Royal in 1990. He won the Under 19 javelin throw event at the John Tarbat meet held in Badulla in 1990. In view of his achievements, Sudam was crowned as the most outstanding sportsman of Royal in 1990.

Having joined the Sri Lanka Air Force in 1991, Sudam was involved in every military operation conducted during his career as a helicopter captain pilot. He was also awarded with gallantry medals for his brave conduct in these operations.

His remains lie at Yakkala and the final rites will held today (October 31) with full military honours.
