Trinity makes it six wins with win over St. Peter’s

Trinity continued their unceasing wave of success when they completely outplayed St. Peter’s by 10 wickets at Asgiriya last evening to make in six wins this season. Heshan Wanniarachch’s unbeaten 108 (14 fours) enabled his team to take a commanding117 run lead on the first innings. Spinners Aamil Anaz and Janishka Premasinghe with match bags of 7 for 47 and 6 for 75 respectively, tightened the screws.

Opener Shehan Fernando displayed talent but showed poor judgment and was trapped on the hook. Jayaratne holed out to mid off and the writing was on the wall.

Kingswood draw with St. Anthony’s

Skipper Hiran Wickremasekera, the Anthonian mainstay, made 150 with 12 fours (his second century) but the loss of four hours of play helped Kingswood to emerge with a draw at Katugastota yesterday.

Wickremasekera, who topped 1000 runs during the last two seasons, seems to be on course for a triple. Rajaguru also chipped in with a half century.

Kingswood struggled to 65 for 7 in 44 overs, unable to come to terms with the off spin of Aravinda Premaratne.

Thomians outclass Revatha MMV

S. Thomas’ Mt Lavinia outclassed Revatha MMV Balapitiya by ten wickets in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Balapitiya yesterday.

It was man in form Nuwan Kavinda and Asiri Wickremanayake who laid the foundation with the duo cracking tons on the opening day. Nuwan continued his good work with the bat as he made 105 which included 16 boundaries and two sixes while Asiri made an unbeten 110 with five boundaries and four sixes.

The finishing touches on the second day was done by Umesh Fernando and Madushan Ravichandrakumar with Umesh taking five wickets in the first inning and Madushan doing the same second innings.

However Revatha MMV managed to evade an innings defeat as Supun Mendis and Shehan Manuran saved them with two useful knocks. But even then the Thomians were given a simple target of just eight runs which they achieved with ease.

The Under 19 inter-school cricket match between St Joseph’s and Royal Panadura ended in a tame draw at Darley Road yesterday. The highlight of the second days play was a fine knock of 91 by Josephian skipper Chathuranga Kumara.

Royal Panadura resuming from their overnight score of 132 for 6 went on to make 167 while St Joseph’s in their turn made 230 for 9 before declaring.

Sachithra grabs five
Sachitra Perera continued to torment his opponents when he bagged five wickets to restrict Maliyadeva to a score of 168 on day two in their Under 19 encounter played at Ananda Mawatha which ended in a draw.

Ananda helped by a knock of 89 from Geshan Wimaadharma made 172 for 4 declared.

Thurstan in trouble
Thurstan was in trouble against Royal when play ended on day one in their Under 19 inter-school played at Thurstan ground. Royal winning the toss and electing to take first lease of the wicket made a modest score of 230 with Imal Liyanage making a top score of 70. Thurstan in their turn were unable to come into terms with left arm spinner Devin Pathmanathan who bagged four wickets and made them struggle for their runs. The match will be continued at 9.30 a.m. today.
