Zonta’s 91st anniversary

Helping and empowering women the world over, Zonta clubs around the world will be celebrating their 91st anniversary on November 6. Founded by Marianne de Forrest in the USA, Zonta has proliferated into a global organisation with more than 1200 clubs sprinkled over 66 countries.

For the past 43 years, Zonta clubs in Sri Lanka have been working tirelessly to spread the Zonta mission in the island as well. The first Zonta Club 1 of Colombo was established in 1967, followed by two other clubs in Colombo and another in Kandy.

The four local Zonta clubs will be celebrating the 'Zonta International Day' together on November 6 this year, in carnival style at the Women's International Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. An array of stalls will sell home-ware, costume jewellery, beauty products, clothes, flip flops and decorations, some products of which have been made by the women assisted by the local Zonta clubs. There will also be a food court, fun activities for kids and more.
