Lankan participants' win honours at Wongu Cup


Avisha Kisholi Dias and Asantha Kumar bagged Golds in Badminton and boys 200 Meters sprint event respectively at the Wongu Cup Peace Sports Competitions 2010 held in Seoul, South Korea.

Sri Lanka was represented in volleyball, basketball, badminton track and field and Table Tennis events at this major sporting event held from October 9 to 15. Sri Lanka's contingent for the seven day contest consisted of 35 competitors - boys and girls.

This competition was held for the fifth time and is held on a regular basis once in two years. Avishka Kisholi Dias won the Gold in the women's badminton singles event while Sahan Ratnayake bagged Silver in the Badminton Singles event.

Shanthini Samarakone took third place and with it the Bronze in the 200 Meters women's sprint.
In boys Table Tennis Sithira Mahanama took the Bronze while Thilini Pushpakumari took the Bronze in the girls Table Tennis competition.

The boys basketball team bagged Silver at the contest while the 4 X 200 boys relay team took Bronze in Relay events. - N.T. S.P. Kumaranasinha
