Brilliant clash at Super Beach today

FFSL Premier League Div II final
By David Stevens

After three months of goal scoring action, the Dialog Premier League finally draws to what is set to be an extremely compelling final between Super Beach SC and Brilliant SC, today at the CR&FC grounds.

Brilliant SC comes into the match with the slight mental advantage of having remained undefeated throughout their 12 league game campaign and of having beaten Super Beach during this spell. Nevertheless they will be mindful of a Super Beach attack that has been slamming in goals with relative ease and frightening regularity.

The sides that have been on the receiving end of Super Beach’s offensive onslaught were Soccer Fan SC, who got drubbed 5-0, and Jet Liners SC, who were steamrolled by three goals to nil. Meanwhile Brilliant has not exceeded a tally of two goals throughout their Premier League campaign.

Of the two, Super Beach had a more torrid time in reaching the finals, needing to thump in two goals to certify a 2-1 victory against Hyline SC. For Brilliant, a single goal proved adequate to dash New Star SC’s hopes of reaching the finals. Some of the key players to watch out for will be Super Beach’s two strikers Shiran Rangana and Sri Lanka Youth player Maduranga Perera, who have combined well throughout this season to pilfer goals at will. Behind a very offensive minded midfield is a determined and disciplined defence, governed by skipper Dilip Ranga and Suranga Jayamal. They also have the added bonus of a sensible and agile goalkeeper in Kasun Dananjaya to further strengthen their defensive presence.

Brilliant SC in turn will attempt to lay siege to this defense through their outstanding attacking trio of A.L Rauf, M. Haroon and Eranda Kulasekera. They will be buoyed by a near impregnable defence blessed with concrete defenders such as M. Nalim and A. Jaufar as well as the intimidating Thazeer in front of goal.

In addition to the glory of winning the Premier League, the victors will also take home a cash prize of Rs. 250,000, while the Runner-up will bag a sum of Rs. 100,000.
