Jain wins Int. Chess Rating contest

Niklesh Jain of India won the championship title at the Buddhi International Rating Chess Tournament held at the Senethura Reception Hall, Baluummahara, Gampaha. The second place was taken by S. Natarajan also of India. The third place went to R.M.C.M. Rajapakse of Kandy. The women’s title was won by Maneesha Suchini Gunaratne of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya Colombo.

The competition was conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and the Fide (World Chess Federation). Three hundred and ninety four chess players participated in the contest including participants from India and Maldives.

Picture shows Chief Guest Suneetha Wijesuriya, Chess Olympiad Gold Medalist, President of the Lanka Chess Foundation and Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre presenting the championship trophy and a cheque for Rs. 60,000 to the winner Niklesh Jain at the closing ceremony. Also in the picture is Miss Buddhi Panagoda, Director of Buddhi International Chess Academy.
