Night of dance

From the team that brought you Jazzmatazz I and II, DANCEWORLD presents JAZZIN’- An evening of jazz and modern ballet to songs from popular musicals to music by the local percussion band NAADRO.
The dances were inspired by music from the silver screen such as Fame, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Pocahontas; to name a few, that the students helped choreograph.

Being more a part of the concert than the dancers the senior students aged between 14 to 18 years, have put a lot of themselves into the production. Creative Director and founder of DANCEWORLD, Sureka Buell says that her students are very eager about the concert and have been involved in every aspect of putting together ‘JAZZIN’. “I want them to learn how to choreograph their own steps” expresses Sureka, “because then they would know how to do this for school productions and this is something they can take with them throughout, once they leave school and university.”

The highlight of the show will be a tribute to Michael Jackson. The tribute will be a medley of songs by the artists during which the dancers will emulate Michael’s energised and tricky dance steps. Complete with the costumes and themed sets, the tribute is designed to wow the audience.

Costumes for the productions were done by Mita Gunawardena who designed the costumes for the previous concerts by DANCEWORLD. While Ajith Peiris is the co-producer.

‘JAZZIN’ will be staged on September 29 and 30 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre at 7pm. Tickets priced at Rs. 1500, 1000, 800 and 500 can be booked by dialing - 0777766323 or 0777558349. A box plan will be available at the Lionel Wendt after September 24.
