Nishika’s spicy designs

Young designer Nishika Samaratunga recently invited to showcase her latest collection in London at the ‘Silk and Spice’ fashion show in aid of Educate A Child Trust, presented feminine elegance using a palette of ‘spice’ colours; saffron, cinnamon and red hot chilli with distinct eastern gold embellishing. Her creations, in light chiffons and fluid oriental silks focused on femininity with an aura of dynamism and confidence.

Enthusiastic about her time in London, 18-year-old Nishika says that it was a great experience to present her designs in aid of the EACT. ‘I spent some time getting to know about the cause and the work done by Educate A Child Trust when I was invited to do the show. Being a student myself, I realize the value of education and its pivotal role in shaping a child’s future. Considering the vital role the Trust plays in facilitating this I was honoured to be part of such a worthy cause.’

Co-organized by the London College of Fashion, the show brought together the widest cross section of leading Sri Lankan designers seen in the UK.

Nishi’s collection was modelled here at the Casa Colombo. Hair and makeup was by Ramzi’s Salon.
