Young female spikers to compete in Vietnam

Sri Lanka’s female junior volleyball players are set to feature in international competition when they journey to Vietnam, for the 15th Asian Junior Women’s Volleyball Championship which will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, from September 12- 21.

The tournament is being organized by the Asian Volleyball Confederation. Sri Lanka’s eleven member squad, which will be captained by Iresha Umayangani, has been placed in Pool ‘B’ which also houses defending champions Japan, Indonesia and Hong Kong.

The teams that will make up the remaining groups are hosts Vietnam, Kazakhstan, New Zealand in Pool ‘A’, Chinese Taipei, Fiji, Thailand and India in Pool ‘C’, while China, South Korea, Iran and Australia will be in Pool ‘D’. The top three teams of the competition will each secure a place at the FIVB Women’s Junior Championship, which is scheduled to take place next year.
