When east and west collide ..... and rock!

Chitral Somapala, popularly known as ‘Chity’ came to be the new vocalist for British melodic metal band ‘Power Quest’ since early this year leaving his own band ‘Civilization One’ who made history as the first ever foreign metal act to perform for several thousand amazing metal fans at the TNL Onstage show in November 2008.

Power Quest founder and main songwriter Steve Williams and Chity be came friends , since they work in the music industry in 2008. In 1986 Chity travelled to Europe as the bassist and singer of a Top 40 band, playing in the biggest nightclub circuits in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Finland. The band backed many well-known artists in these countries as well. After touring for some time in the club circuit playing Top 40 Hits, he decided in 1994 to leave this scene to concentrate only as a vocalist of original Hard Rock/Heavy Metal---one of his long awaited dreams.

Since this time Chity has toured the world and recorded with bands such as Firewind, Avalon, Red Circuit, Faro and of course his own band ‘Civilization One’.

Although they had been aware of each other for a number of years (and shared a wide range of acquaintances), the first time Chity and Steve actually worked together was in 2008 when they were both approached by David Shankle (formerly of Manowar) to form part of the new line up of the David Shankle Group. Unfortunately neither Steve nor Chity remained in the band for long but they did find that they worked very well together when it came to song writing and proceeded to stay in touch over the months which followed.

By early 2010 Steve had put together a new line up of Power Quest but found that two of the new members were not working out as hoped and needed to be replaced. It was at this point that Steve thought about asking Chity if he would be interested in fronting Power Quest as he felt his vocal ability, all round musicianship and live experience would be just what the band needed now.

Having discussed this with the band, and asked Chity to demo a Power Quest song which turned out great, Chity was asked to take up the position of lead vocalist which he duly accepted. This was announced worldwide in May 2010.

Power Quest is currently in the pre-production phase for their fifth album, “Blood Alliance”. The album will be recorded at Foel Studio in Wales this month and will be released in early 2011 worldwide by Napalm Records. According to Chity the band will be hoping to tour Asia next years for the very first time and Colombo will be their first stop.
