Quest for a Cat at AF Colombo

‘Chacun cherche son chat’ (When the Cat’s Away) a story about a young woman’s quest for her lost cat and more a portrait about the morals and attitudes of modern society will be screened at 3 pm on Tuesday September 14 and at 6.30 pm on Wednesday, September 15 at Alliance Français de Colombo.

Directed by Cédric Klapish the film revolves around Chloe, a young woman who is going on holidays while entrusting her beloved cat to an old lady of the neighbourhood, Madame Renée's care. But one day Madame Renée, could not find the cat. Chloe starts searching the neighbourhood... This is the pretext for the exploration of a quarter of Paris and its inhabitants.

In this film director Klapisch’s flair for capturing real-life situations on film, in a way that is familiar yet somehow fresh and invigorating, makes this 1995 film an entertaining and thought-provoking film.

The director shows great originality and panache in his filming, transforming a mundane plot into a multi-faceted study of contemporary life, sometimes comic and sometimes contemplative.
