Lankan golfers excel

Sri Lankan golfers Mithun Perera and N. Thangaraj reigned supreme at the team event of the Singapore Open Amateur Championships, beating out the stiff challenge of the home team before walking away with the winner’s trophy last week.

Perera and Thangaraj notched up a score of 447 to dispatch the Singaporean duo of Jerome Ng and Gregory Foo, who finished with a final tally of 448. Perera’s performance in the team event underscored an impressive all-round outing in the tournament, as he was runner-up at the individual event held later. Perera, who shot a total of 9 over 293, lost to Edgar Oh, by just two strokes.

However he can take great pride from his performance in both the individual and team events, where he beat out 98 golfers and teams from Hong Kong, Philippines, Myanmar, Pakistan, Malaysia, India and host nation Singapore participated.
