Down Memory Lane Sing-Along A Great Success

The prime Sing-along Festival of Golden Oldies in Sri Lanka conduted by the Moratuwa Arts Forum held on 8 th August, at Hotel Ranmal, Moratuwa turned out to be a resounding success. An enthusiastic crowd of old favourite lovers numbering nearly 500 throgned for this much looked forward concert and indeed proved to be the leading Sing-along programme in the country.

The show began with the customary American plantation song ‘Old Folks at Home’ followed by an assortment of evergreen songs made popular during the 60s,70s & 80’s era. Songs such as ‘Red River Valley, Cindy, Santa Lucia,Galway Bay, Home on the range, Ring Ring, Rivers of Babylon, It was only a heart, Blue Berry Hill, Rambling Rose,ON Moonlight Bay and more were sung during this 2 1\2 hour concert. The DML Sing-along concluded with the traditional singing of Auld lang syne, where the entire audience stood on their feet, holding cross hands and swaying from side to side – depicting goodwill and warmth.

THE Sing-along sessions were led by Priya Peiris, Lankika Perera. and Brian Cooray joined by MAF Singers that comprised of Anuradha Mendis,Lucille Pereira, Lilanthi Jayaratne, C.L. Fonseka, Nihal Fernando, Erinton Perera, Merril Fernando, Delvin Pereira, Hiran Fernando, Mala Bhareti,Lucky Deva and Hemaka Fernando, Special performances were presented by Chandani Silva who kept the audience in fits of laughter with her comedy skit & Chatrapani Peiris who gave a polished performance on his Harmonica with the rendition of Blubell Polka. Varuni Cooray’s Junior pupils performed an eye-catching Hawaaian Dance to the singing of Pearly Shells.
