Funday Times - A Poem for the week

Once upon a time
By Sammani Kitulwatte (12 years), Devi Balika Vidyalaya

Once upon a time, there was,
A land of magic, of miracles,
A man’s dream, a fantasy come true,
A marvellous land –
of make-believe.

There were dragons – breathing scorching flames,
Giants, over a hundred feet tall,
Ogres, all glum, and menacing at heart,
Goblins, mischievous, full of cheek.

Centaurs, so brave, so loyal, and,
Fairies, the sweetest,
the prettiest,
Elves, the hard workers, the labourers of rich,
Enchanters, the powerful – the undefeatable.

They last until, the land faded away,
It was the day, man set foot on Earth,
Yet traces they left behind – for man to find,
And fill pages and pages of fairy tales.
