SLC coaching scheme successful

Sri Lanka Cricket’s ‘Coaching Department’ made its first distribution of internationally recognized Coaching Certificates to (121) local Cricket Coaches who participated in Level (1) Coaching Courses conducted by the ‘Coach Education Unit’ over the last six months.

The awarding of certificates took place on 9th August 2010 at the SLC Headquarters and was attended by SLC Officials Mr. DS De Silva (chairman), Mr. Nishantha Ranatunge (Secretary) and Mr. Ashley De Silva (Head of Cricket Operations)

SLC invested in setting up its own ‘Coach Education Unit’ for the first time in Sri Lanka Cricket’s history 18 months ago, it was intended to upgrade the Level (1) Coaching Syllabus which was available at that time and the current ICC Internationally Endorsed new SLC Cricket Coaching Certificate is an indication that the investment made by SLC at that time had paid dividends under a 24 month period.

The ‘Coaching Department’ is currently looking at the possibility of developing its own Level (2) Coaching Course Syllabus in the near future, if successful the Coaching Department will be looking at the possibility of obtaining the ICC Endorsement for its Level 2 Syllabus which in turn will help local Cricket Coaches obtain a advanced Certificate in Coaching in Sri Lanka without having to go overseas which is currently the practice.
