Exhibition by Sarath

Veteran artist S.H. Sarath will hold an exhibition of his paintings at the Lionel Wendt on August 18 and 19. The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. each day.

It will be followed by a showing at the Artist's Gallery at 18A, Sarasavi Gardens, Nawala Road, Nugegoda from August 22 to September 10.

Odissi dance troupe here

Well known Odissi dancer Sharmila Biswas and her troupe are in Sri Lanka in connection with the 63rd Indian Independence Day celebrations. Their dance tour of the country organised by the Indian Cultural Centre will begin today with a concert at the Kularatne Hall in Ananda College at 6.30 p.m.

This will be followed by a performance on Tuesday, August 17 at 5 p.m. in Kandy at the Hindu Cultural Centre (Central Province Hindu Association) and in Nuwara Eliya on August 18 at the New Town Hall at 4 p.m. They will also have a lecture-demonstration on Thursday, August 18 at the Indian Cultural Centre in Colombo at 6 p.m.

Sharmila Biswas, who won the Uday Shanka Award for best choreography in 1998, is also the founder of Odissi Vision and Movement Centre. She is known for her originality in composition, technique and stage design.
