Power from nitrogen

By Priyath Wijewardena

A Light Nitrogen Gas facility is being built to produce 630 mega watts of electricity, Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha said yesterday.

He said natural gas as an energy source was environment friendly and the project was part of a series of measures that were being taken to reduce dependence on oil as a source of energy.

The minister said alternate energy projects would also help minimize losses made by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
