SC orders next round of payment for GK depositors

The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday ordered the next round of payments for Golden Key depositors to begin and to sell all major assets of GK and related companies for this purpose.

The 3-member bench headed by Justice Shirani Thilakawardana issued this directive after considering a 38-page report on GK assets submitted by the Committee of Chartered Accountants, when the GK case Fundamental Rights case was taken up for hearing.

The next installment of payments to depositors should be made expeditiously by disposing of major assets belonging to GK and related companies after obtaining the valuation of such assets from the Chief Government Valuer, the court said.

The first phase of the repayment of security deposits as approved by the Supreme Court involving Rs 772.93 million for 7,838 depositors has been completed, the Committee of Chartered Accountants informed the court.

The second round of Rs 100,000 will be paid to the 7,838 depositors. The Committee with the approval of the court has already advertised to dispose of certain company assets. The next date of hearing of the case was fixed for October 27.
