Zahira rugby 7s today

The Zahira Rugby 7’s Under 20 inter-schools rugby tournament organized by the Group of 60’s of Zahira is scheduled be to worked off today at the Royal Sports Complex at Reid Avenue. The tournament which is being held for the third successive year will see 13 teams fighting for honours which includes the reigning Under 20 schools rugby champions St. Peter’s and Isipathana who are the defending champions.

Isipathana in fact was also the winner of the inaugural tournament played in 2008. They will be looking forward to make it three-in-a-row. But the Peterites who began the inter-school rugby season winning two sevens titles are going to be a major threat for the defending champions.

The teams:
Group ‘A’ – Isipathana, CWW Kannangara, Ananda. ‘B’ – Royal Colombo, Piliyandala Central, Science, Zahira. ‘C’ – St. Joseph’s, Bandarawela Combined Schools, Prince of Wales. ‘D’ – St Peter’s,

Vidyartha, Royal Panadura.
The winners of the Cup, Plate and Bowl championships will receive trophies. The Cup winners and runner up will receive a cash award of Rs. 50,000/- and Rs. 25,000/- respectively while the Plate winner and runner up will get Rs. 25,000/- and Rs 15,000/-.Apart from that the Cup, Plate and Bowl winners will receive gold, silver and bronze medals along with certificates. A special prize will be presented to the most outstanding player of the tournament.-
